Ilya Lagutenko has always moved between worlds — from the Russian Far East to Shanghai, London, Tokyo and California, and from guitar-driven rock to electronic music, film and unexpected collaborations.

As founder and voice of Mumiy Troll, he coined “rockapops” — less a genre than an instinct to ignore boundaries between sounds, languages and cultures. From the landmark Morskaya onward, that instinct has shaped decades of records and performances around the world.

Outside Mumiy Troll, Lagutenko moves between projects including MTRSS and WILL LAUT, collaborating with artists from different musical worlds. His own name is where many of those encounters land — collaborations, one-off recordings and songs created for film.
